Scrappers’ Guilmet honored by NYPL
NILES — Mahoning Valley Scrappers starter Preston Guilmet was named the New York-Penn League pitcher of the week on Monday.
Guilmet made two starts for the Scrappers, going 2-0. He struck out a career high 10 batters in five inning against Vermont on Saturday.
Guilmet is 5-2 this season with a 2.72 earned run average.
In 49 2/3 innings he’s allowed 39 hits, with 45 strikeouts and 12 walks.
Guilmet is the second Scrappers player to be named pitcher of the week this season. Marty Popham was named pitcher of the week for the period July 6-12.
Kyle Conley of the Batavia Muckdogs was named batter of the week.
Conley made his Batavia debut on Aug. 3 and in seven games is batting .458 with three home runs and five RBIs.
The Scrappers return to Eastwood Field for a six-game homestand where they play host to the Brooklyn Cyclones (New York Mets) and the Lowell Spinners (Boston Red Sox).
