Library board to discuss request for 1.7-mill levy
YOUNGSTOWN — The Board of Trustees of the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County will conduct a special meeting at 4 p.m. Tuesday at the library system’s Newport Branch, 3730 Market St. The purpose of the meeting is to discuss a library property-tax levy the board wants the Mahoning County commissioners to place on the ballot. The library board favors a 1.7-mill, five-year measure, consisting of a 1-mill replacement and 0.7-mill additional levy that would generate $6.87 million annually. The county commissioners are expected to consider a library levy at their 10 a.m. Thursday meeting. Their deadline to put levies on the Nov. 3 ballot is Aug. 20.
