Boardman car break-ins lead to arrests
BOARDMAN — Police arrested an East Indianola Avenue man, accused of breaking into cars parked at a church; and two teenagers accused of taking items from vehicles at an apartment complex.
Ronny Daviduk, 25, of East Indianola, is charged with resisting arrest, possession of criminal tools, three counts of criminal damaging, two counts of theft and one count of attempted theft. He was in the Mahoning County jail.
About 1:15 p.m. Sunday, police were called to St. Charles Church, Westview Drive, on a theft from vehicle report. A witness told police that a man wearing a silver shirt and tie broke into a car in the lot. The man, later identified as Daviduk, then fled the church lot in a silver minivan, according to a police report.
Police spotted the car on Stadium Drive at Market Street and followed it as it turned into the mall. Daviduk then jumped out of the van, fleeing on foot. Police stopped and arrested him as he tried to hide in some bushes near a Charles Avenue residence.
Three vehicles at the church had been broken into.
About 6 a.m. Sunday, a resident of Lemans Drive watched from his apartment balcony as two men entered his car. He yelled at them and the two left. As the man was waiting for police, he saw the two enter more vehicles at another apartment building.
Police found the two, a 15-year-old boy of North Hazelwood Avenue, and David B. Ferguson, 19, of North Schenley Avenue, both of Youngstown, walking behind the carport of Lemans.
When officers tried to stop and question them, the two fled, a police report said, with police pursuing.
The juvenile is charged with three counts of theft, receiving stolen property and obstructing official business.
Ferguson is charged with three counts of theft, criminal damaging, possession of criminal tools and obstructing official business.
He was lodged at the Mahoning County Jail. The juvenile was released to his grandmother’s custody.
Many other reports of thefts from vehicles were reported throughout the township over the weekend.
