YSU, Ohio State commission artworks

COLUMBUS — Youngstown State University and Ohio State University are commissioning artworks from American artists.

Youngstown State is commissioning work for the Williamson College of Business Administration building, which is under construction. Cleveland State University is commissioning work for the College of Education and Human Services building.

Advisory committees at both universities will review submitted works and select semifinalists, who will then create proposals.

The deadline for both projects is Aug. 28. Artists interested in applying for these commissions can go to oac.state.oh.us/grantsprogs/PercentforArt.asp.

The commissions were announced by the Ohio Percent for Art program, which was established by the Ohio Legislature in 1990. It provides that 1 percent of the total appropriation of new or renovated public buildings costing more than $4 million be used for the acquisition, commissioning and installation of works of art.
