Scrappers’ streak ends in Vermont

WINOOSKI, Vt. — The streak is over.

The Mahoning Valley Scrappers managed just five hits and committed two errors and saw their winning streak snapped at seven games with a 6-2 loss to the Vermont Lake Monsters in a New York-Penn League game on Friday.

The Scrappers’ 1-4 hitters went just 1-for-14, with the lone hit coming from leadoff batter Jordan Henry. Henry did swipe his 14th base of the season.

Casey Frawley hit his first double of the season, drove in a run and scored a run for Mahoning Valley (31-18), which leads Williamsport by three games in the Pinckney Division.

Ben Carlson added a single and scored a run and Dwight Childs had an RBI single.

Brett Brach (2-2) started and went five innings, giving up four runs (three earned) on six hits with three walks and three strikeouts.

Jose Urena tossed the final three innings, surrendering two runs (one earned) on three hits with two walks and four strikeouts.

Ronnie Labrie went 3-for-4 and scored a run for Vermont, while Destin Hood added two hits. Fransisco Soriano and J.P. Ramirez each scored twice.

Gary Amato (1-1) pitched 32‚Ñ3 innings of scoreless relief to get the win.
