Roth Bros. eliminated in NABF event
YOUNGSTOWN — The Canton Walthers team pushed across a run in the last of the fifth inning Friday to blank the Roth Brothers 1-0 in the NABF Major Division baseball regional tournament.
The loss at Pemberton-Donnell Park eliminated Roth from the nine-team field.
Five players each had a single for Roth and Bob Switka pitched a six-hitter.
Canton scored when Ryan Armstrong drew a one-out walk and Ty Moorhead doubled.
The Canton Walthers posted their second shutout of the day when they blanked the Pontiac Parkers, 6-0.
Jared Messer pitched a complete-game three-hitter and Zach Barson singled three times for Canton.
Pittsburgh St. John’s remained undefeated with a 5-4 win over Brunswick.
St. John’s used a walk and three singles to score two runs in the last of the ninth inning to wipe out a 4-3 Brunswick advantage.
Mike Hermann and Jon Zilles each had two singles to pace St. John’s.
In other games in the tournament, Steve’s Sports eliminated Berea Bluesox 4-3 and Brunswick pinned a 4-0 setback on Pontiac.
Brad Fitz pitched a three-hitter for Brunswick with five strikeouts.
Today the tournament is scheduled for completion with all the action scheduled at Pemberton. At 10 a.m. Brunswick is to face Steve’s Sports and at 1 p.m. St. John’s is paired with the Canton Walthers. Another game will be played at 4 p.m.
