Charged in traffic death
BOARDMAN — A Woodrow Avenue man is charged with vehicular manslaughter stemming from an April SUV-motorcycle accident on South Avenue. Roderick McCune, 36, is scheduled to appear Thursday in Mahoning County Area Court.
Police said that McCune was driving his SUV south on South on April 17 and tried to turn left into the driveway of a doctor’s office and collided with motorcyclist Robert E. Davis, 60, of Meadowbrook Avenue, who was traveling north on South.
Davis, who wasn’t wearing a helmet, was pronounced dead a short time later at St. Elizabeth Health Center, Youngstown.
Pastor pleads innocent
BOARDMAN — A pastor accused of animal cruelty has pleaded innocent to the charges.
The Rev. Timothy Hayes, 35, of East Western Reserve Road, was charged last week with five counts of animal cruelty. He pleaded innocent Thursday night in Mahoning County Area Court. He is scheduled for a pretrial hearing Sept. 8.
Police were called on a report of four neglected dogs to the home where the Rev. Mr. Hayes, pastor of Woodworth Church of the Brethren, lives. The church owns the home.
Police called Animal Charity, which filed the charges. Three dogs kept outside had to be put down because of poor health, humane agents said. A dog inside a breezeway of the home and a rabbit that was in a cage in a garage were removed.
