Aerosmith tour’s future uncertain after injury
STURGIS, S.D. — Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry said Friday he doesn’t know if the band will keep its current tour going because of injuries lead singer Steven Tyler suffered when he fell off a stage Wednesday.
Tyler tumbled Wednesday while performing during the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally in western South Dakota.
Perry gave an in-studio interview at WXRX-FM in Rockford, Ill., Friday morning on his way back home to Boston. The guitarist didn’t say anything specific about Tyler’s condition or say where Tyler was. The rock legend suffered head and shoulder injuries in the fall.
“We still don’t know if we’re going to keep the tour up or what. It’s breaking my heart,” Perry said in the interview that also was streamed on the Internet.
Aerosmith’s next concert was scheduled for Friday in Winnipeg, Manitoba, but was postponed. The band’s Web site doesn’t mention any other cancellations, and calls for comment have gone unanswered.
Tyler, 61, fell several feet while entertaining the crowd by dancing around as the sound crew replaced a fuse that blew during the song “Love in an Elevator” at the Buffalo Chip Campground, which hosted the Wednesday night concert.
Wife of Monkees’ Dolenz arrested, accused of fraud
NEW YORK — The wife of Monkees vocalist Micky Dolenz was arrested Friday on charges that she defrauded an affordable-housing program in New York City.
Authorities in the city’s Department of Investigation said Donna Quinter, 54, illegally received $136,866 in government rental subsidies for an apartment on Manhattan’s Upper East Side.
The subsidies were supposed to go to middle-income families living in the city year-round who were in danger of being forced out by gentrification.
Investigators say Quinter failed to disclose that she was sharing the apartment with a friend who paid rent. The home also wasn’t her only residence. Since marrying Dolenz in 2002, the former flight attendant has lived with her husband in Bell Canyon, Calif., an exclusive gated community outside Los Angeles.
Quinter surrendered to authorities in New York on Friday morning. She was expected to be arraigned later on larceny charges in a Manhattan court.
Multiplayer online game set to debut next month
LOS ANGELES — Think you can do better than Stan Lee?
The new, massive, multiplayer online role-playing game “Champions Online” launches next month. Gamers will be able to create their own virtual superheroes. Sorry, no Spider-Men or Batmen allowed.
Developed by Cryptic Studios and published by Atari, the PC game is based on “Champions,” a pen-and-paper role-playing game published in 1981.
“Champions” isn’t the first superhero-themed online game. Cryptic Studios also developed “City of Heroes” in 2004 and its sequel, “City of Villains,” in 2005. DC and Marvel Comics also have announced they are developing their own online games that will allow gamers to fight alongside characters such as Superman and Batman.
