Ohio coroner rules festival stabbing accidental
COLUMBUS (AP) — An Ohio coroner has ruled that a teenager’s fatal stab wounds at an outdoor festival were self-inflicted and accidental.
Franklin County Coroner Jan Gorniak also said Thursday that tests showed 18-year-old Bryan Barbin had both LSD and marijuana in his system.
Columbus police said Barbin was stabbed multiple times in the chest June 27 at ComFest, an annual summer festival at a park just north of downtown. He was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Witnesses had said Barbin was wrestling with another teen. Police Sgt. Eric Pilya of the homicide division says investigators have determined the other person was a friend trying to take away the knife.
Barbin had finished his freshman year at Ohio University.
