Gov. Strickland camps out at Ohio State Fair

COLUMBUS (AP) — Keeping a tradition going, Ohio’s governor has spent a night immersing himself in the Ohio State Fair.

And, for a second year in a row, Gov. Ted Strickland has given the custom his own spin by sleeping in a tent within the Ohio Department of Natural Resources’ exhibit area, instead of bedding down in a livestock barn.

Sleeping was not a big part of the governor’s stay-over at the fair. He says he got only about 3 1‚Ñ2 hours after gathering with families around a campfire Thursday night to eat corn on the cob and toast marshmallows.

This morning, Strickland was put to work in a horse barn, where he says he brushed the animals and shoveled “you-know-what,” as he puts it, out of the stalls.

The fair continues through Sunday.
