Man charged with trying to stalk Miley Cyrus
SAVANNAH, Ga. — Police say a Georgia man has been charged with attempting to stalk Miley Cyrus after he returned to the set where the teen star is filming a movie near Savannah weeks after police warned him to stay away.
Tybee Island Police Chief Jim Price said Wednesday that 53-year-old Mark McLeod of Appling was arrested after Disney security officers on the island reported he was asking where he could find Cyrus last weekend.
Tybee police arrested McLeod in June on charges of disorderly conduct and obstruction. They say he had tried to breach a security perimeter around the movie set. McLeod told police after his arrest that he was secretly engaged to marry Cyrus.
Mayor suspends cop in stars’ surrogate case
MARTINS FERRY, Ohio — A mayor has suspended an Ohio police chief without pay in the alleged snooping on a Hollywood couple’s surrogate mother.
Martins Ferry Chief Barry Carpenter was suspended Tuesday, one day after Bridgeport Police Chief Chad Dojack was put on paid leave by his village council.
Both chiefs are accused in an alleged scheme to take items from the Martins Ferry home of the woman who recently carried twins for Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick. A special prosecutor said the southeastern Ohio chiefs, who are charged with several felonies, tried to sell items to celebrity photographers. Carpenter and Dojack pleaded not guilty Friday.
Martins Ferry Mayor Phil Wallace said Carpenter’s suspension is indefinite.
Song pays tribute to British war veteran
LONDON — Radiohead has recorded a song in tribute to Britain’s last World War I survivor.
The rock band’s song is inspired by a radio interview the late veteran Harry Patch gave in 2005 recounting the horrors of war. It includes the lyrics “I am the only one that got through, the others died where ever they fell.”
Patch recently died aged 111.
“Harry Patch [In Memory Of]” debuted on the BBC radio’s “Today” program Wednesday and is available to download from the band’s Web site. All profits go to the Royal British Legion — a charity for British veterans. Patch’s funeral will be held at Wells Cathedral in Somerset, southwest England, on Thursday.
