Jogger crushed by tree branch
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Police say the death of a woman jogging in Philadelphia’s Fairmount Park appears to be a freak accident.
Chief Inspector Scott Small says a 30-foot-long tree branch fell on the woman from 50 feet above the ground Wednesday evening. Small says the unidentified woman instantly died.
Small says she was wearing a portable music player, which was still playing when police arrived, making it possible that she didn’t hear the branch breaking.
Wednesday’s accident happened a week after a New York City man was hit on the head by a rotted tree branch while walking to work through Central Park. Sasha Blair-Goldensohn was comatose after being hit by the 100-pound limb, which fell 20 feet.
