Howland girls advance at state

The Howland 9-10 softball team, representing Little League District 2, defeated Ashtabula 8-3 in the state tournament.
Hannah Kowach pitched five scoreless innings for Howland, striking out 11. She allowed only three hits and one walk.
Kowach also hit two doubles.
Hailey Mink, Caroline Henneman, Mackenzie Maze, Ariel Takat and Tija Pate had hits in the third inning as Howland scored five runs.
Henneman, Maze and Pate helped Howland scored two more runs in the fifth inning.
Howland baseball
The Howland 10-11 baseball team was rained out Thursday at the state tournament in Chesapeake. Howland is scheduled to play today at 12:30 p.m.
Babe Ruth
The Youngstown 14-year-old all-stars was 4-0 at the Ohio Valley Regional in Robinson, Ill., advancing to the championship round.
Youngstown has defeated Eastern Kentucky 6-5, Northern Indiana 17-4, Southern Illinois 19-0 and Southern Indiana, 11-2.
Youngstown was scheduled to play Tuesday night for the championship.
