Corruption probe figure wants out of $3M divorce

CLEVELAND (AP) — An Ohio construction executive expecting prison for bribery and other charges is seeking to take back a $3 million divorce settlement.

In court papers filed in Cleveland, Steven Pumper argues he would not have signed the deal with his wife last year if he’d known he was an FBI target.

His lawyer says Pumper no longer has the money, partly because publicity from the legal case has hurt the construction firm Pumper co-owns.

A hearing on Pumper’s motion has been scheduled for early November.

He pleaded guilty last month in a deal offering a possible reduced prison sentence, likely 6 1‚Ñ2 to 10 years.

Ex-wife Darlene Pumper maintains in court papers that her former husband knew about the federal investigation months before their divorce agreement.
