YWCA is offering summer scholarships
YOUNGSTOWN — The YWCA of Youngstown is offering weekly scholarships to its summer enrichment program for children ages 6 to 12. The program offers character-building lessons, art, sports, games and computers.
The summer enrichment program is offered at YWCA Discovery Place West, 2214 Mahoning Ave. Child care is available Monday through Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. with part-time and full-time rates.
Priority for scholarships will be given to families with financial need. To apply for a financial scholarship for the program, call the YWCA at (330) 746-6361. The summer program ends Aug. 28.
YWCA Child Care is licensed by the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services, has degreed and certified teachers on staff and provides breakfast, lunch and a snack.
Train club is open
WARREN — The Riverside Railroad Train Club is the Mahoning Valley’s only public large-scale Garden Railroad Club. The layout is located at S.C.O.P.E. Warren Center, 220 W. Market St. Warren. Phone (330) 399-8846. On Saturday and Aug. 9, there will be an open house from 1-5 p.m. The donation is $3; children under 12 will be admitted free with an adult.
Greenford Ruritan plans blood drive
GREENFORD — Residents are invited to participate in a blood drive sponsored by Greenford Ruritan Club from 2 to 7 p.m. Aug. 10 at Greenford Christian Church.
Also scheduled is a highway cleanup day Aug. 15 on Washing-tonville Road, and a work day Aug. 22 at the Ruritan fair building in preparation for the Canfield Fair. The projects were announced at the July 27 meeting of the club.
The speaker at the meeting was Erik Kochanowski, special agent with the U.S. Department of Justice, who explained how the drug enforcement administration is working to stop drug trafficking in the greater Mahoning valley.
The next Ruritan meeting will be at 7 p.m. Aug. 31 at the Ruritan fair building.
School supplies sought
BOARDMAN — The United Way is asking residents to help with a Stuff the Bus project in the YMCA parking lot by contributing school supplies for underpriviledged children in the Mahoning Valley.
The donations will be packed into book bags and distributed during an annual Day of Caring on Sept. 11. Monetary contributions will be accepted and used to purchase the book bags.
