Sorokas celebrate 60th anniversary at family gathering
Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Soroka Jr.
BOARDMAN — Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Soroka Jr. of Barbie Drive celebrated 60 years of marriage on July 19 during a dinner at the Links at Firestone Farms, Columbiana.
Hosts for the event were their children and their spouses, Shelly and Dave Courtney of Canfield; Geri and Ed Freeze and Chip and Tammy Soroka, all of Boardman; Rob and Joyce Soroka of Mentor; and Renae and Bud Strohmeyer of Aurora. Rounding out the family circle are 14 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
After serving with the U.S. Army, the Army Air Corps and the Merchant Marine Corps during World War II, Mr. Soroka was part owner/operator of J&S Aluminum until retiring in 1993. He is a member of the Western Reserve Chapter of the American Merchant Marine Veterans and American Legion Post 15.
Mrs. Soroka, a homemaker, served more than 20 years as a volunteer at St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown. She is an active member of the Infant Jesus of Prague, the Legion of Mary, and the Altar and Rosary Society. She served as president of Seton Circle and is the current president of Junior Seton Circle.
St. Columba Cathedral in Youngstown was the setting on July 20, 1949, as the former Geri Meyers and Mr. Soroka were united in marriage. They are members of St. Christine Church in Youngstown.
