Revival planned
NEWTON FALLS— The General Assembly Church of God will have a revival today through Aug. 9 at the Newton Falls church, 2021 E. River Road, with a bluegrass festival from 2 to 8 p.m. to start the event.
The Rev. Marlow Napier of London, Ky., will speak Sunday through Wednesday. The Rev. Jerry Yancey from Pioneer, Tenn., will speak Thursday through Aug. 9. Yancey and Napier are the general and assistant overseers of the General Assembly Churches.
Special music will take place nightly to start each service. Services will be at 6 p.m. Sunday, 7 p.m. Monday through Aug. 8 and at 11 a.m. Aug. 9. After the final service, the church will have a homecoming celebration with special guests, the Singing Weavers of Atwater, and a free dinner.
Host pastor is Mitchel Meadors.
Mysticism workshop
VILLA MARIA, Pa. — A workshop, “The Journey of the Soul,” is planned from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 29 at Villa Maria Education and Spirituality Center.
The workshop will explore Teresa of Avila’s “Interior Castle” and Caroline Myss, “Entering the Castle.” Sister Elaine Wellinger, who has degrees in pastoral counseling and a certificate in theological studies, will facilitate the program. She is a sensor motor educator specializing in the mind-body-spirit connection for spiritual growth.
The cost is $50 and includes lunch. Registration and payment is requested by Aug. 14.

Prayer Shawl Ministry
CANFIELD — The Prayer Shawl Ministry will meet from 1 to 3 p.m. Aug. 8 at Ursuline Mother House, 4250 Shields Road. The session will take place during a Walk in the Gardens fundraiser for pool renovations at the Ursuline Center. Participants should bring knitting or crocheting needles and worsted weight yarn.
The group welcomes stitchers of all skill levels and is willing to teach new attendees to knit or crochet.
The group is making prayer shawls for cancer patients and patients at the AIDS/HIV clinic at the former Southside Hospital.
Donations of yarn or needles are accepted at the Ursuline Mother House reception desk or by calling Eileen Novotny at (330) 533-3831.
The group will meet from 10 a.m. to noon Sept. 15 and 6:30 to 8 p.m. Sept. 16 at the mother house parlor.
Church revival
CAMPBELL — Gospel Temple Baptist Church, 279 Whipple Ave., will host a revival at 7 p.m. Aug. 9-11.
Speaker will be the Rev. Kenneth Paramore of Christian Revival Discipleship Center.
The Rev. Melvin Brown is pastor.
MVAC Web site
YOUNGSTOWN— The Mahoning Valley Association of Churches has launched a Web site, www.mvaconline.org.
The organization plans to use the Web site as an electronic resource for local churches and seeks to inspire “more interreligious dialogue and cooperation.”
St. Therese novena
YOUNGSTOWN— A novena to St. Therese of the Child Jesus will begin at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at Sts. Cyril and Methodius Church, 252 E. Wood St.
The novena will continue Thursday for nine weeks and conclude on Oct. 1, Feast Day of St. Therese, who is known as “The Little Flower.”
St. Therese religious articles also will be available.
Rosary cenacle
YOUNGSTOWN— The Shrine of Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted and the Queen of the Holy Rosary Prayer Group will have a rosary cenacle at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the shrine, 517 South Belle Vista Ave.
Refreshments will follow in the social hall.
Pastor anniversary
YOUNGSTOWN — The Rev. Clifford Kimbrough, pastor of Mount Gilead Baptist Church, will be honored at a banquet to mark his 39th anniversary as pastor.
The event will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Aug. 8 at St. Mark’s Church banquet hall, 3560 Logan Way, Liberty. Donation is $20.
City Prayer Team
YOUNGSTOWN—The City Prayer Team of Youngstown will host a prayer assembly at 10 a.m. today at Fifth Avenue Community Church, 1361 Fifth Avenue.
Concert series
COLUMBIANA— The fourth in a five-concert series will begin at 3 p.m. Aug. 9 at Zion Hill Church of the Brethren, 14550 New Buffalo Road.
The Bartholomew Family Singers headline the concert.
Dan Schall concert
NEWTON FALLS — Pricetown United Methodist Church, 4640 Pritchard-Ohltown Road, will play host to a concert by Dan Schall of Zelienople, Pa., at 7 p.m. Aug. 9.
Donations will be accepted.
Healing drum circle
VILLA MARIA, Pa. — Villa Maria Education and Spirituality Center will have a healing drum circle from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Aug. 10 at the grounds of the Villa Maria Community Center.
Participants should meet at the outside labyrinth or if rain, the gym.
