Park Vista is recertified as Eden provider
YOUNGSTOWN — Park Vista, 1216 Fifth Ave., received notice on July 16 of a two-year recertification as a registered Eden Alternative provider following a review of requirements, including letters of support from families and interviews with the certified Eden Associates at Park Vista.
The Eden Alternative is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to remaking the experience of aging across America and around the world. The Eden registry consists of homes that make a public commitment to creating a healthy human habitat for older adults and those who care for them. Park Vista is the only Eden certified provider in the Mahoning Valley area.
Under Eden, resident choices set the schedule, said Michael Grimes, administrator.

ABWA chapter seats officers at dinner
YOUNGSTOWN — Youngstown Charter Chapter of the American Business Women’s Association inducted officers for the upcoming season during a dinner and meeting on July 21 at Boardman Township Park.
Installed by outgoing president Susan Morell were: Cathy Pokrivnak, president: Beth Stanko, vice president; Patti Mika, secretary; and Mary Ann Rushton, treasurer. Since 1954 ABWA chapters in the tri-county area have sponsored fashion shows as fundraisers and have collectively donated more than $500,000 in college scholarships to area students. The next ABWA fashion show will be Sept. 20.
Salvation Army seeks school supplies
Youngstown — The Salvation Army, 1501 Glenwood Ave., is asking the public to donate backpacks and school supplies to be distributed to 1,500 children in time for the start of school in the fall.
The donated items will be accepted at the headquarters from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Those donating large quantities of the items can arrange for pickup by calling (330) 746-8430.
They will be given (while the supply lasts) to children attending a Kids’ Fun Fair with a parent or guardian between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Aug. 12 at the Glenwood Avenue facility. For more information contact Jan Malandro at (330) 746-8403.
Band members to wash cars
BOARDMAN — Boardman band members will wash cars from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at A&W, Tesone’s Boot and Shoe Repair, Arby’s, Steak ’N’ Shake and Shepherd Self Storage.
There is no charge for the car wash; however, donations will be appreciated and will help to defray the costs of an annual band trip.
First Lego League workshop scheduled
NILES — The Art Outreach Gallery at the Eastwood Mall will host a First Lego League Coaches Training Workshop from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 22. at the mall, 5555 Youngstown-Warren Road.
Travis Hoffman, Warren G. Harding High School Team 48 Delphi E.L.I.T.E. engineering team leader, will conduct the workshop with the help of other members of the local Northeast Ohio First Robotics Alliance First Teams.
FLL topics will be covered thoroughly during morning presentations, followed by an open hands-on building and programming session after lunch.
FLL team registration is now open and will continue through the end of September, until all registration slots are filled. The FLL season typically runs from September through January. Business owner named to image consultants post
BOARDMAN — In July, Jennifer Betts, owner of Fashion 360, a fashion stylist and image consulting business, was elected president of the Ohio/Pa. chapter of Association Image Consultants International for the 2010-2011 year. Betts was also nominated as Vice President of Education for the AICI and will be in charge of booking speakers for their membership meetings.
