Fitch’s Hartman subdues Hoover


AUSTINTOWN — Ricky Segesto had a two-run single to lead the Fitch High baseball team to a 2-1 victory over visiting North Canton Hoover on Wednesday.

Joe Koch and Nick Crum each added two singles for the Falcons (8-4, 4-3 Federal League). Tyler Hartman tossed a two-hitter with six strikeouts and one walk.

Nick Sturiale went the distance for Hoover (10-6, 2-4).

Mooney 11, Warren JFK 1

STRUTHERS — Anthony Franceschelli struck out nine in tossing a four-hitter for the win.

Ed Reese added two hits, including a homer, and Drew Fitzpatrick, Boo Vazquez, Dan Eich and Dante Lewis each had two hits for the Cardinals (11-0, 3-0 Steel Valley Conference).

Derrick Bagby doubled for JFK (5-8).

Hubbard 4, Lakeview 1

CORTLAND — Matt Shelton pitched a five-hitter with 10 strikeouts while Tim Schiraldi smacked a three-run double in the first inning to lead Hubbard (11-6, 5-0 All-American Conference White Tier).

Mike Pasternak had two singles for Lakeview (3-10, 3-1).

Struthers 14, Liberty 1

STRUTHERS — John Rhoads (3-0) pitched a two-hitter to lead Struthers, which scored eight runs in the fifth inning to put the game away.

Dom Lariccia went 4-for-4 with a double, three RBIs, two runs scored and a stolen base.

Springfield 8, Salem 3

NEW MIDDLETOWN — Starting pitcher Travis Richey and last-inning reliever Eric Lipp combined to pitch a seven-hitter for Springfield, while Richey also contributed three singles and one RBI.

Todd Kibby had a double and two RBIs and Bryan Visingardi a double, single and one RBI to help the Tigers (15-3), while Frank Sferra added two singles.

Brandon Simmons had a double, single and one RBI for Salem (3-11).

Campbell 5, Newton Falls 1

CAMPBELL — In the first inning, sophomore Dave Bennett and senior George Fasline singled before a double by senior Kyle Firm scored both for Campbell.

In the second inning, Alex Lopez got on base via error and advanced a base on a groundout before junior Josh Gore singled Lopez home.

Campbell is 8-3, 5-1 AAC Blue. Newton Falls, which had seven hits, is 4-12.

Girard 5, LaBrae 4

GIRARD — Girard held off a LaBrae rally in the sixth inning.

Tony Cardiero had two singles for the Indians (8-3, 5-2 AAC).

Ryan Kirkpatrick got the mound win with relief help from Patrick Rhodes and Joe Cavalier.

For LaBrae (3-8, 2-5), Trey Yoho had two singles and Bobby Dragash two RBIs.

Columbiana 4, Mineral Ridge 0

MINERAL RIDGE — Jeff Davidson (3-0) tossed a five-hit shutout with four strikeouts and two walks to lead Columbiana.

Matt Douglas added two hits, including a double, Davidson had two RBIs and Tyler Denmeade also doubled for the Clippers (12-3, 8-1 Inter Tri-County League Tier One), who broke through for one run in the fifth and three more in the sixth.

Anthony Pannunzio had two hits for Ridge (2-8, 2-6).

Western Reserve 8, McDonald 1

McDONALD — Gabe Gaudet had two hits for Western Reserve, which was out-hit by McDonald, 7-6.

Senior Alan Blakley had three singles and junior Mike Gatta had two hits for the McDonald (9-2, 8-1 ITCL Tier Two).

Lowellville 11, Wellsville 1

STRUTHERS — Louie Lebrone had three hits and Drew Skelley tossed a three-hitter with nine strikeouts and two walks to lead Lowellville (10-8, 7-2 ITCL2).

Nunzio Lombardozzi had two hits for Wellsville.

Mathews 5, Badger 2

KINSMAN — Chris Morgan pitched a four-hitter and Jake Swank and Rick Sommers each had two hits with two RBIs for Mathews (13-1, 9-1 Northeastern Athletic Conference). Joe Braho doubled and drove in two for Badger.

Field 15, Southeast 2

MOGADORE — Eric Fleming homered as part of a two-run first inning for Southeast (4-9, 0-8 Portage Trail Conference). Joe Adkins had three hits and three RBIs for Field (12-4, 7-1).
