Fraud investigation under way in Salem

SALEM — A Salem woman paid a fine after someone pretending to be from the Columbiana County Prosecutor’s Office said she would be arrested for nonpayment.

The woman told Salem police on Monday she sent the money to the caller, and found later that the caller was not from the prosecutor’s office.

Police urged her to contact her bank and have any transactions stopped.

Salem and county officials are investigating.
