Columbiana commissioners mull CDBG requests

LISBON — Columbiana County commissioners had their annual public hearing today on the potential use of community development block grant funds.

Penny Traina, the president of the commissioners, said the county received $274,400.

The CDBG program, started in 1974 by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, provides communities with funding to address a wide range of community development needs.

Twelve county political subdivisions asked for some, almost all, or even more CDBG funding for a variety of projects.

Wellsville, for example, asked for $500,000 in CDBG funds for new road paving and curbs.

The commissioners said they would not make a decision on awarding funds for several weeks.
