YOUNGSTOWN — A city couple is in Mahoning County Jail on a combined $1.25 million bond for charges stemming from a weekend shooting.

Isiah Weatherspoon, 19, of Hilton Avenue, was arraigned before Judge Robert Douglas of Youngstown Municipal Court via video Monday on felony charges of assault and child endangering.

The judge appointed an attorney for Weatherspoon and set bail at $1 million.

Isha Butler, 19, of Hylda Avenue, also was arraigned via video before Judge Douglas on charges of complicity to felonious assault and child endangering.

The judge set her bond at $250,000, and she has been ordered to wear an electronic- monitoring device should she post bond.

According to police reports, Weatherspoon and Butler, who are dating, along with Butler’s 3-year-old child drove Saturday afternoon to the Lucius Avenue home of another man with whom Butler has had a child.

Weatherspoon, police said in a report, wanted to confront the father of Butler’s child.

Reports say the two men exchanged some words while the Lucius Avenue man’s mother attempted to end the confrontation. Butler and Weatherspoon started to leave the residence, but Weatherspoon, once inside the car, fired several shots at the Lucius Avenue home, police said.

Police said there were several children playing in front of the house at the time of the shooting. Reports also said a spent shell casing hit the 3-year-old child sitting in the back seat of the car.

Officers went to Weatherspoon’s Hilton Avenue home shortly after the shooting and found Butler preparing to pull out of the driveway in the same car from which the shots reportedly had been fired.

Weatherspoon ran back into the house.

Officers searched the house and found Weatherspoon but did not find any firearms. Officers found a spent shell casing in the car.

During arraignment, prosecutors showed Weatherspoon’s criminal history to include carrying a concealed weapon and receiving stolen property.

According to reports, Butler told officers she drove Weatherspoon to the Lucius Avenue address because he had shown her the gun, and she was fearful that he would do her harm if she did not take him.
