4 area school districts to share in funds

STAFF REPORT

YOUNGSTOWN — Four local school districts have been approved to share in $40 million in building construction/renovation funds by the Ohio School Facilities Commission.

They were among 28 districts across the state approved for nearly $270 million in funding.

The state money come from the $4.1 billion tobacco securitization funds, said Mike Shoemaker, OSFC executive director, noting that the $270 million will help support about 2,100 job opportunities across the state.

Local recipients are:

UWarren: $24,738,537 representing the full OSFC share of the $27.8 million construction of the new Jefferson K-8 and McGuffey K-8 buildings in the district.

UHubbard: $14,703,541 representing a portion of the OSFC share of the new k-12 campus being built by the district. The project has a total cost of $58 million with the OSFC expected to pick up nearly $40 million of that amount.

UGirard: $699,440 for site utilities work for the new $26 million high school now under construction. The OSFC is picking up about $20 million of that project cost.

UYoungstown: $70,030 for the demolition of the old Jackson School, part of a $190 million school rebuilding program. The OSFC is picking up about $150 million of the total project cost.
