Improv comedy battle

CHAMPION —Spot On Productions, Kent State Trumbull Theatre’s resident comedy troupe, will present an improvisational comedy competition, “The Battle for the Gold.” Two teams, each headed by one of Spot On’s co-presidents, Jenna Cintavey and Daniel Parsons, will compete in front of a live audience and three judges in a format that mirrors the television show, “Who’s Line Is It Anyway?” The competition will be at 7 p.m. Friday in Kent Trumbull Theatre, 4314 Mahoning Ave. N.W. YSU arts festival

YOUNGSTOWN — The 11th annual Summer Festival of the Arts, July 11 and 12 on Youngstown State University’s campus, is seeking volunteers for artist registration, information booths, the children’s art tent, technical assistance at performance sites and other duties. Various shifts are available for the two-day event, and each volunteer will receive a festival T-shirt, cold water and reserved free parking. Lori A. Factor, festival coordinator, said, “Each year our participants compliment our volunteer corps on its knowledge, enthusiasm and professionalism. Our volunteers are crucial to the festival’s success and offer a personal touch to make this event successful.”

Volunteers sought

YOUNGSTOWN — Pride Youngstown is holding the area’s first Gay Pride event from noon to 8 p.m. June 6 on Phelps Street, between West Commerce and West Federal Street, downtown. The event will include live entertainment, food, activities for all ages, and informational presentations on the LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgendered) community.

The family-inclusive event will be free and open to the public. Volunteers are needed; interested persons should send an e-mail to prideyoungstown@gmail.com.

Poland Idol contest

POLAND — Organizers of a singing contest scheduled for this summer are looking for contestants.

Poland Idol 2 is planned as part of Celebrate Poland festivities June 27. Contestants compete in categories by age: kindergarten through fourth grade, fifth through eighth grade, high school and adult. Call Cindy Best at (330) 651-2999 for details. There is a $20 registration fee.
