Copy this original tip and get into the habit

Dear Heloise: Here is a way to remember to remove your original from a copy machine: Establish the habit — every time you use the copier — of lifting up the cover before you walk away! Do this every time, whether you are certain you removed your last document or not. If you do this without fail, you will never accidentally leave something!

Other good habits:

•Always turn off the oven before removing food. Rarely will the dish need more baking, but if it does, the oven won’t need preheating. You will never forget to turn off the oven after taking food out.

•Always empty the lint filter before taking the clothes out of the dryer. You will never accidentally forget to clean the lint filter, and it will work more efficiently.

•Always lock your car wherever you park it, even in the driveway of a friend’s home. By developing this habit, you will not absent-mindedly forget. Ann B. Campbell, Fort Wayne, Ind.

Dear Readers: Here are three important things to know when applying makeup:

•Use the top side of your hand to test foundation, powder or blush.

•For concealer, pat rather than rub.

•Use a lip pencil to outline, then fill in lips instead of using lipstick. Heloise

Dear Heloise: Here is my grocery-list hint. I actually list all the items we normally buy, in order of location within each aisle. A small line in front of each item enables me to check the items we need or the quantity. It helps quickly to see which aisles to bypass and makes it easier for other family members to do the shopping, if necessary.

Although creating the original list and revising it is a tedious task, the considerable time it saves on each shopping trip makes it worth the initial effort. Carol D., Fort Wayne, Ind.

Dear Heloise: How do you clean glass bakeware? I’ve tried everything, but they are still stained with baking marks. There has to be an easier way to keep them clean-looking. John, Little Rock, Ark.

Take the dish outside and set it on newspaper, out of the reach of children and pets. Spray it with oven cleaner and wait 30 minutes while it loosens the baked-on food. Wash with hot, sudsy water, using a nylon scrubbie, if needed. No steel wool or abrasive cleaners, since they can damage the bakeware and make it unsafe. Heloise
