Dove Spring Game luncheon Tuesday

YOUNGSTOWN — Reservations for the annual Bob Dove Spring Game Luncheon Tuesday are now being accepted.

The noon luncheon will be held at the DeBartolo Stadium Club in Stambaugh Stadium.

Various senior football players and coach Jon Heacock will be available for interviews.

The cost of the luncheon is $5 for Penguin Club members and $7 for non-members.

Kickoff for the Red-White Spring Game on Friday is 7:30 p.m.

Curbstone Coaches

BOARDMAN — Mike Zordich, former Chaney High, Penn State and NFL standout, and currently an assistant football coach at Youngstown State University, will be the featured speaker at the Curbstone Coaches noon luncheon at the Blue Wolf Banquet Center.

Vallinger decides

POLAND — Poland High School senior Trent Vallinger has signed a letter of intent to continue his baseball career at Lake Erie College.

Lake Erie is a member of NCAA Division II athletics.

Vallinger is a four-year starter for the Bulldogs and earned first-team All-MAC honors for pitching and outfield the past three seasons.

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. — Brian Gay moved a round away from his second career PGA Tour victory, shooting a 67 to hold a three-shot lead over Tim Wilkinson at the Verizon Heritage on Saturday.

Gay has made only one bogey at Harbour Town Golf Links and missed just five of its narrow, tree-lined fairways through three rounds to stand at 13-under par.

CHARLESTON, S.C. — Caroline Wozniacki advanced to the finals of the Family Circle Cup on Saturday, fighting off a furious rally by Elena Dementieva to defeat the tournament’s top seed 6-4, 5-7, 7-5.

Outback Steakhouse

LUTZ, Fla. — Nick Price moved into position for his first Champions Tour victory, shooting a 4-under 67 on Saturday to take a three-stroke lead into the final round of the Outback Steakhouse Pro-Am.

The 52-year-old Price, a three-time major champion and 18-time winner on the PGA Tour, had a 9-under 133 total at TPC Tampa Bay. He birdied two of the last three holes.
