TACOMA, Wash. — Shawnette Nicole Jenkins, formerly of Youngstown, and Derrick Eugene Oliver, both of 9100 Lakewood Drive SW, Lakewood, Wash., were united in marriage at 5 p.m. April 4.

The wedding took place at Greater Tacoma Convention and Trade Center, where they were honored during a reception that followed the ceremony.

The bride, who was escorted by her son, Brian J. Jenkins III, wore a white satin mermaid-style gown. It featured a double banded sweetheart neckline and chapel train and was embellished with beaded metallic embroidery.

An apple red gown with champagne accents was worn by the honor attendant, Suzan Rivera.

The bride’s daughter Brooklyn J. Jenkins escorted her sister, the flower girl, Erica N. Blue; and the ring bearer, Joshua R. Oliver, a nephew of the groom.

The groom’s sister, Karen Oliver, served as his attendant.

A graduate of Trumbull Business College in Warren with an associate degree in accounting, the bride is a resident services specialist with Pierce County Housing in Puyallup, Wash.

The groom graduated from the University of Florida in Gainesville, Fla,, with a master’s in electrical engineering. He is a senior human resource supervisor with the U.S. Army at Fort Lewis, Wash., and is serving his 17th year in active duty as a Sgt. 1st Class with the 3rd Stryker Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division.

The couple live in Lakewood.
