Film as fundraiser for Humane Society

COLUMBIANA — “Dr. DoLittle,” described as “one of the all-time film-making classics” and the 1967 Oscar winner for special effects and the song, “Talk to the Animals,” will be shown Friday and April 26 at Main Street Theater. The Humane Society of Columbiana County will sponsor the classic film as its spring fundraiser.

Songs by Two, featuring the local duo of “Piano Pete” Rukenbrod and songstress JayDee Pamer, will entertain before the 7 p.m. Friday show and during intermission. Dr. Len Pritchard will bring the calliope music of Pritch’s Pipes to Main Street before the 2 p.m. April 26 matinee, weather permitting.

Partners for the fund-raiser are Fairfield Animal Hospital, Holloway Insurance and Invisible Fence of Eastern Ohio. Other “cast members” are A Place for Paws, Wine Connection, Dessie Bates Pampered Chef and Tastefully Simple, Friends Roastery Ink and More, Gray Kodrich and Supplies Inc., Maid in America and Encore Cafe.

Tickets are available at these businesses and Humane Society of Columbiana County, 1825 S. Lincoln Ave., Salem.

Butler Institute of Art is reaccredited

Washington, D.C. — The American Association of Museums has announced that the Butler Institute of American Art in Youngstown has been reaccredited by the AAM Accreditation Commission. First accredited by the prestigious national organization 20 years ago, the recent re-designation signifies that the Butler continues to meet the high standards established by professionals in the museum field.

The accreditation process begins as a two-year self-study program, culminating in an on-site review by a visiting committee. The peer review found the Butler to be “a wonder” and “a gem.”

Membership drive

CANTON — The Ohio Arts and Crafts Guild, 338 4th St. N.W., a nonprofit organization that represents practicing artists and crafters, is accepting new members. The guild was established in 1963 and has nearly 400 members in Ohio and surrounding states. Ohio residency is not required.

Pairing wine and food

MADISON, OHIO — The Winegrowers of the Grand River Valley are hosting an Around the World in the Grand River Valley Wine Region from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday.

This food and wine pairing will feature the best European-style regional wines paired with fine cuisine.

The event includes five wineries all within 10 minutes of each other.

Patrons begin at any of the participating wineries.

The cost is $5 per person at each winery, which includes samples of wines paired with an appetizer and recipes.

Museum seeks artists

CINCINNATI — The Robert S. Duncanson Society of the Taft Museum of Art annually recognizes the achievements of contemporary artists of African origin through the Duncanson artist-in-residence program.

The program, Oct. 19-Nov. 1, requires an artistic professional specializing in painting, drawing, printmaking or sculpture.

The deadline is April 30.
