WARREN — Seraphim Chorus, directed by Kris Harper, will present “When In Our Music God Is Glorified,” a festival of hymns featuring organ, brass quartet, flute and tympani, at 4 p.m. April 26 at Christ Episcopal Church, 2627 Atlantic Street N.E.
The concert will offer hymns from a variety of backgrounds, including arrangements of favorites, including “How Great Thou Art,” “Here I Am, Lord” and “Amazing Grace.” Also included will be a traditional Quaker hymn, “How Can I Keep From Singing?” A free-will offering will be taken.
First sermon
YOUNGSTOWN — Ruth E. Parker of Fellowship Baptist Church, 102 Penn Ave., will preach her first sermon at 3:30 p.m. April 26 at the church.
Christian solution
WARREN — A “Town Hall for Hope” program featuring Dave Ramsey will be presented Thursday. Area sites are at Tod Avenue United Methodist Church, 155 Tod Ave. N.W., and Miracle Valley Church, 2119 Valley View Road, Hermitage, Pa. The free program will begin at 8 p.m. and the doors open at 7:30 at both churches.
Ramsey is an author, speaker and radio host on financial matter and the Christian solutions. He will conduct the live seminar to more than 3,000 sites throughout the country using designed Web sites. He will address the topic of the economy.
Being a Christian
GIRARD — Many people who once called themselves Christians are now choosing to call themselves “followers of Jesus.” Does “Christian” carry negative connotations in today’s world? Will changing our name change how people perceive us? Do we need new terminology to describe our faith journey? These and other related questions will be the basis for a dinner and discussion Sunday at First Presbyterian Church of Girard, 890 Church Hill Road. His Music Connection
GIRARD — His Music Connection will present Dove Award-winning contemporary Christian artist Mitch McVicker in concert Friday at the former Wellman Theater at 29 W. Liberty St. The evening will also feature a performance by singer/songwriter Jenah Ross.

FARRELL, PA. — The 100th year of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, 1909-2009, will be celebrated during a service at 4 p.m. April 26 at Second Missionary Baptist Church, 1138 Spearman Ave. Deacon George Footman, Mercer County Unit of NAACP president, the unit’s religious affairs committee are planning the observance.
The Rev. Charles Johnson, pastor of Cedar Avenue Church of God, Sharon, Pa., will be guest preacher. A 100-voice choir, directed by Phyllis Bolling, will perform; Dorothy Townsend will give a history; and the children’s ministry of Hour of Power will perform in mime. A social will follow in the church fellowship hall.
Writings of St. Paul
CANFIELD — “The Writings of St. Paul” will be discussed during programs planned from 7 to 8 p.m. Monday, and April 27 and May 4 at the Ursuline Center, Shields Road. Presenter will be Ursuline Sister Therese Ann Rich, pastoral associate at St. Edward Church in Youngstown. Catechist certification hours will be available.

Groundbreaking event
POLAND — Holy Family Church, 2729 Center Road, will have a groundbreaking ceremony at 4 p.m. Sunday for a new parish center. Participants will be Bishop George V. Murry of the Catholic Diocese of Youngstown; Monsignor William J. Connell, pastor of Holy Family; and Tom Fortunato and Joe Fleming, project co-chairmen. A reception will follow. The center, which is expected to be completed in October, will accommodate 400 people. It may be used as one large hall or be divided into three areas. The new center, which will be handicapped accessible, also will be energy efficient with geothermal heating. The center will have a designated area for the Youth Ministry Group and Holy Family School and CCD Program will use the center. There also will be a new parking lot with access to Route 224.
