O’Neal gets 2nd chance

LOS ANGELES — A judge is giving the son of Farrah Fawcett and Ryan O’Neal one last chance to kick his drug habit.

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Scott Millington on Friday transferred two felony drug cases against Redmond O’Neal to a court that could send him to a stringent rehab program. But he sternly warned the 24-year-old that he if he fails at rehab — as he has at least three times before — he’s going to prison.

“Understand if I see you in that seat again, it’s not going to be pretty,” Millington told a somber-looking O’Neal. O’Neal appeared in a jail jumpsuit and told Millington he was motivated by Fawcett’s ailing health to stay clean. He said Fawcett weighs roughly 86 pounds and that he is ashamed of himself for recent relapses and his April 5 arrest on suspicion of taking heroin to a Los Angeles area jail facility.

Fawcett was recently released from a Los Angeles hospital after suffering complications from a medical procedure she had in Germany. The “Charlie’s Angels” actress is suffering from anal cancer.

“I’m just really upset with myself,” O’Neal said at one point during the hearing.

Conklin off to Iraq

NEW YORK — Ryan Conklin, the impish, guitar-playing merry prankster of this season’s “The Real World: Brooklyn,” is packing his guitar and heading to Iraq on Sunday.

The former cast member of the MTV reality show is doing his second tour of duty. He talked from Fort Bragg, N.C., and said he’s eager to “get this thing started” so he can return home. He hopes to serve a rotation of just nine months.

The 23-year-old Gettysburg, Pa., native was on the front lines three years ago. He received his deployment notice while living in the “Real World” house. It was one of show’s most poignant moments.

Conklin enlisted in the Army at age 17.

Groups toast Harvey Milk

NEW YORK — A network of Long Island gay and lesbian advocacy groups is honoring slain gay rights activist Harvey Milk this weekend.

Milk’s nephew, Stuart Milk, will accept an award Saturday from the Long Island Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Services Network.

Milk grew up on Long Island and graduated from high school there in the late 1940s — keeping his sexuality a well-guarded secret.

David Kilmnick, the network’s executive director, says he hopes the award will draw attention to the plight of suburban gays and lesbians.

Kilmnick says people should be able to live openly gay lives without having to flock to gay-friendly meccas such as New York City, San Francisco or Atlanta.
