Cost to adopt dog at pound rises to $100

LISBON — The price for a dog at the Columbiana County Dog Pound just increased for a good cause.

The county commissioners voted unanimously Wednesday to raise the cost of a dog’s adoption from $80 to $100.

The change was made retroactive to April 1.

The increase will cover an increase in fees from Angels for Animals in southern Mahoning County.

Angels for Animals does the spaying and neutering of animals for the Columbiana pound. Angels for Animals recently had increased its fees from $65 to $85.

The county pound doesn’t do the operations.

The commissioners said the arrangement with Angels has worked out well for years.

Commissioner Jim Hoppel said the Angels organization previously had donated a truck to the county to take Columbiana County dogs back and forth for their spaying or neutering.

The commissioners also approved spending $2,075 to complete an outside cement walk at the dog pound.

It will help complete a project to cover caged runways so animals can go outside for exercise and go inside to get warm on their own.
