OHSAA: Schools can play 3rd preseason

COLUMBUS — The Ohio High School Athletic Association says schools can play three preseason football contests this August, giving players one more opportunity to prepare for the regular season.

The association said Thursday that holding the extra contest would also give athletic departments another opportunity to bring in money from ticket sales.

Schools had been limited to playing just two scrimmages. But Commissioner Daniel Ross said in a statement that the third contest — a jamboree — could be played between Aug. 14 and Aug. 22. Up to four schools could participate in any one jamboree.

Nate Dolin dead at 95

CLEVELAND — Nate Dolin, a former vice president and part-owner of the Cleveland Indians, has died of pneumonia in Rancho Mirage, Calif., where he spent winters.

Dolin, 95, who lived in suburban Lyndhurst, died Sunday, according to his son, Lawrence S. Dolin of nearby Shaker Heights.

People often confused Dolin and his son with the Indians’ current leaders, Larry Dolan and his son, Paul.

Bill Veeck sold the Indians in 1949 for $2.2 million to a seven-member group including Dolin and headed by insurance executive Ellis W. Ryan, and Dolin sold his share on Nov. 20, 1962, according to The Cleveland Indians Encyclopedia.
