Poland wins 12-2 as Modic strikes out 14

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — Winning pitcher Jenna Modic (3-0) struck out 14 and walked one as Poland defeated Central Carolina, 12-2, in the Grand Strand Classic on Tuesday.

Karah Pierce, Erin Gabriel and Nicole White each had two hits including doubles, for the Bulldogs (6-1). Modic also had two hits.

Central Carolina (12-7) ace Rose Scarlett lost for the first time in 13 decisions.

Akron Hoban 6, Mooney 0

AKRON — Kent State recruit Lauren McNeil scattered three hits and struck out 16 for the Knights (4-1). She also had a two-run triple. Miami (Ohio) recruit Taylor Rice had two hits as did Ashley Gironda. For the Cardinals (3-2), Meghan Williams had two singles.
