The (Findlay) Courier: A bill to encourage new college graduates to stay in Ohio has passed the state Senate unanimously. “Grants for Grads” would give Ohio residents who are new recipients of bachelor’s degrees a chance at winning a certificate worth $5,000 toward buying a new home.
But we can’t help questioning how effective this program would be at stymieing the brain drain when it only helps 300 people a year. And few recent graduates are in a position to purchase a home in the first two years after graduation.
Ohio needs more trained workers and more jobs. It would seem that the best way to achieve that is for the state to continue to work to bring down the cost of post-secondary education and to improve the state’s business climate.
