Cheslik’s 3-run HR carries Canfield

MYRTLE BEACH, S. C. — Behind an 18-hit attack, Canfield High remained undefeated through five starts with a 17-1 win over Newark (N.J.) on Tuesday.
Tom Cheslik hit a three-run homer, Nick Benson had two doubles and two RBIs, Justin Vrabel collected a double, a home run and three RBIs while Dan Banna homered twice to drive in three runs for the Cardinals. Also for Canfield (5-0), Jared Turocy doubled in a run and Brock McGivern had two hits and an RBI. Newark is 1-2. Canfield faces Jamestown (N.Y.) today.

NEWTON FALLS — Tommy Jackson, Bo Slemons and Mike Starr homered for the Eagles (3-4) who opened a 10-0 lead in the first inning. Dan Helsel doubled twice and Zach Palumbo had a two-base hit for Hubbard. The Tigers (0-7) were held to two hits.

STRUTHERS — Tyer Serich had two hits and an RBI and Dom Lariccia added two hits and two RBIs for Struthers in an All-American Conference Blue Tier game. Niko Magnolia had two singles and an RBI, George Fasline had two singles and Kyle Firm had two singles and two RBIs for Campbell (1-2, 1-1).
Warren G. Harding 14, Ashtabula Lakeside 1
WARREN — Warren Harding used a powerful offensive assault to fight off the Ashtabula Lakeside 14-1 Monday. The Raiders scored 14 runs in the first inning off of Dragon starter Mike Mechalic, who walked five batters without any strikeouts. Jordan Miller had two doubles in the game. Will Fraizer took the mound for the Raiders and pitched four solid inning, allowing only one run. He struck out six and walked three. Jordan Miller had two doubles for the Raiders.
Beaver Local 9, Niles 8
NILES — It took 12 innings, but Beaver Local was able to overcome Niles in a 9-8 victory. Each team used three pitchers, who gave up a combined 24 hits. The Red Dragons committed 11 errors and both teams stranded 14 runners on base.
