Jamie’s Dance Force soloists win titles

YOUNGSTOWN — Soloists from Jamie’s Dance Force won major titles at two recent regional dance competitions at Stambaugh Auditorium.
At the Headliners competition April 2-5, Poland High School senior Brenna Frank garnered top honors as Miss Headliner in the senior category at the Headliners competition.
Joellin Chance, a freshman at Austintown Fitch, was recognized as Miss Headliner in the teen category.
Laura Tinkler, a sophomore at Canfield High School, won Miss Senior Superstar during the Star Systems competition.
Frank also placed first in the overall solo standings in the senior category at Headliners, and Tinkler finished fourth in the same category, which featured 90 soloists from dance studios across the region.
Chance took fifth place in the overall solo results in the teen category at Headliners, which included 100 soloists.
Natalie DeGenova, a sophomore at Poland High School, won sixth place in the senior solo division. Each of the Jamie’s soloists won an elite gold medal, the highest medal awarded by Headliners.
At the Star Systems competition March 13-15, Frank won third place in the overall standings. Frank and Tinkler received platinum medals, the highest score level in the Star Systems competition.
The soloists performed dances in a variety of styles. Frank won with a lyrical contemporary solo to “Farewell.” Tinkler danced a lyrical jazz routine to “Dock of the Bay.” Chance performed “Breathe Me,” a contemporary lyrical piece. DeGenova danced to “Glamorous Life,” an up-tempo jazz routine.
Other award-winning soloists from Jamie’s Dance Force included Caprie Klacik and Lyndsay Olenych, both eighth-graders at Boardman Center Middle School. Klacik performed “In the Mood” and Olenych danced to “Baby, You’ve Got What It Takes.”
Group routines from Jamie’s Dance Force also received top scores at the competitions. At Headliners, “One More Day” won as the top senior group, “If I Were a Boy” took second among teen groups, “Pretty One” scored as second highest routine in the mini category, “Girl Thing” captured third place in the teen class/line division, “Beautiful Day” placed fourth among teen groups, “Dirty South” finished fourth in the teen class/line category and “She’s in Love” captured fifth place among mini numbers.
Special judges’ awards went to: the senior dancers in “One More Day” and “Sinking Feeling” for overall excellence; “Pretty One” for tap precision, dynamic performance and costume; to “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun” for an enthusiastic performance in the junior jazz category; DeGenova for overall performance quality in “Glamorous Life” and to Olenych for a solo performance.
At Star Systems, “If I Were a Boy” and “Pretty One” won platinum awards. “Pretty One” won second place in the mini category, and “One More Day” placed fifth among senior small groups.
Jamie’s Dance Force is located at 590 E. Western Reserve 7B, Boardman. Studio director Jamie Domer Cordon opened the studio in the fall of 1999.
Jamie’s will celebrate its 10th anniversary with a dance recital titled “Brand New Day” at the Boardman Performing Arts Center, 7777 Glenwood Ave., Boardman, at 6:30 p.m. May 29 and 30.
