“We Shall Remain” (9 p.m., PBS): It’s not often that we see American Indians on our television sets — unless they’re sharing screen time with Kevin Costner or getting shot at in a John Wayne movie. So it’s refreshing to discover a powerful and provocative documentary series that devotes five nights to exploring our nation’s history as seen through native eyes. Making good use of live-action dramatization, archival footage, animation and commentary from scholars and American Indians, the epic program spans 300 years and covers a number of pivotal moments, from the arrival of the Mayflower in the 1620s to the siege of Wounded Knee in 1973. Along the way, it dispenses with tired clich s and reveals twists and surprises many of us never knew. Benjamin Bratt narrates.
“Doing da Vinci” (10 p.m., Discovery Channel): The legacy of the iconic inventor is examined, with a team from today attempting to build one of his weapons.
“Saving Grace” (10 p.m., TNT): It’s season finale time for “Saving Grace” as the troubled title character struggles with whether or not she should try to halt the execution of Leon Cooley. Meanwhile, we struggle with whether or not to watch.
“College Life” (10:30 p.m., MTV): “College Life” is a new documentary series that follows freshmen at the University of Wisconsin as they cope with academic pressures, romantic turbulence and homesickness.
