Reserve center reunion

VIENNA — Twenty years ago, a new Naval Reserve center was opened at the Youngstown Air Reserve Station to replace the former facility on East LaClede Avenue, which had operated in Youngstown since 1948.

To commemorate the Navy Operational Support Center’s 20th year at YARS, the Navy Reserve is having a celebration and reunion Aug. 15 for Naval Reservists from all units who drilled at the center on East LaClede or the Youngstown Naval Reserve Center in Vienna.

U.S. flag-retirement event

YOUNGSTOWN — American Legion Post 472, 323 E. Indianola Ave., is having a United States flag-retirement ceremony at the post from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday. The public is asked to bring their worn or tattered American flags to the post hall from 2 to 7 p.m. weekdays through Friday. Call Bob Raver at (330) 501-8849 for more information.

DAV seeks members

YOUNGSTOWN — Disabled American Veterans Youngstown Chapter 2 is seeking new members. Upcoming meeting dates at 7 p.m. at the chapter house, 609 Steel St., are: April 22, May 27, Aug. 26; Sept. 23 and Oct. 28. There are no meetings in June, July, November and December.

Assisting with orphans

Air Force Master Sgt. Cordelia Dorsey, assigned to Combined Joint Task Force-Horn of Africa, is among service members stationed at Camp Lemonier, Djibouti, who donate their time visiting the Djibouti City, Africa, orphanage, assisting French nuns in feeding babies and toddlers cared for at the facility.

Dorsey is part of the Combined Joint Task Force-Horn of Africa, which helps build the internal capacities of countries at risk to prevail against extremists exploiting instability. The CJTF-HOA includes about 1,800 people from all branches of U.S. military service, civilian employees, coalition forces and partner nations.

Dorsey, a Youngstown native and 1982 graduate of Chaney High School, is supply chief for the 449th Air Expeditionary Group.
