YOUNGSTOWN — People interested in forming a mental health services, consumer-run, workers cooperative, which would serve as a platform for small business and community service projects, are invited to meet from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Mahoning County Board of Health Drop-in Center, 1344 Fifth Ave.

Topics to be discussed include public and private resources available to encourage business ownership by those who are disabled, an overview of worker-owned and operated cooperatives, and possible small- business and community service projects.

WARREN — The Raymond J. Wean Foundation is offering informational sessions for potential grant-seekers about the foundation’s priorities and process from 10 to 11:15 a.m. April 28 at the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County, 305 Wick Ave., Youngstown; and from 3 to 4:15 p.m. April 30 at the Howland Branch of the Warren-Trumbull County Library, 9095 E. Speech and hearing clinic

LISBON — The Columbiana County Health Department is offering a pediatric speech and hearing clinic April 24 at the health department, 7360 state Route 45, Lisbon.

Any child up to age 21 who is a county resident and is having problems hearing, has chronic ear infections or has speech problems or delays may be referred to the clinic by a doctor, nurse, teacher, speech therapist, hearing therapist, parent or grandparent.

Shoebox items due

YOUNGSTOWN — Wednesday is the deadline for collecting personal hygiene items for the Shoebox Full of Love and Hope project, coordinated by the United Way of Youngstown and the Mahoning Valley and AFL-CIO Community Services.

The purpose of the project is to provide people a shoebox full of items, such as soap, toothpaste or shampoo when they go to the food bank.

Donors are asked to deliver their items to the United Way of Youngstown and the Mahoning Valley, the United Way of Trumbull County or any member agency.

During the United Way Youth Day of Caring on April 25, youth volunteers will put the items into tote bags or shoeboxes for distribution by Second Harvest Food Bank of Mahoning Valley to food pantries on a pro-rated basis, which is based on the number of clients they service.

Hearing tests for seniors

NILES — Shepherd of the Valley-Niles, 1500 McKinley Ave., in partnership with New Life Hearing Aid Center and the Ohio State Highway Patrol, is offering free hearing tests for local seniors April 23.

The hearing test, part of the state highway patrol’s efforts to promote senior safety on the roadways, takes about 40 minutes. Eight testing times are available. For an appointment, call (330) 544-0771, ext. 0.

Credits, news from HMHP

YOUNGSTOWN — Humility of Mary Health Partners is offering free online continuing education credits and breaking medical news provided by specialty MedNews Plus‚Ñ¢ to its health care staff and community physicians and nurses.

The program is a partnership of the e-health communications company, Private Health News, and MedPage Today, and is a part of HMHP’s physician Web portal.

The information provided by the program comes from trusted medical journals, news wires and conferences and is updated daily. Each subscriber can also customize it according to areas of practice specialty or interests, hospital officials said.

Free training session

FAIRFIELD TOWNSHIP — A free training session on autism and Asperger’s will be offered at East Fairfield United Methodist Church, 45675 state Route 558, Fairfield Township, on April 21 from 6 to 8:30 p.m.

The training will offer answers for parents, teachers, professionals and caretakers of children with these problems. The evening begins with dinner and socializing at 6 p.m., and the program begins at 6:30 p.m. Participants must register by April 20, and can request child care by contacting Kelli Harding at (330) 692-1427 or the church at (330) 457-2465.

CPR and first aid available

YOUNGSTOWN — A CPR/AED (adult/child/infant) Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation and Automated External Defibrillator course is scheduled for Wednesday and April 25 by the National Safety Council in the Ohio One Building, 25 E. Boardman St.

Also, a standard first-aid course is offered Wednesday and a basic life support for health care providers is April 25.
