Howland team’s state championship speaks for itself


Individuals from various schools did well across a variety of categories.

The Howland High School speech team recently took top honors in the Ohio High School Speech League State Championship Tournament at Mason High School.

Howland placed first in the Team Sweepstakes category, followed closely by a number of other local teams.

Cardinal Money took second, Austintown Fitch took fourth, Canfield took fifth and Ursuline placed ninth overall.

More than 70 teams from across the state competed.

Some local individual and duo performers took individual top honors.

Monica Scarsella and Michael Lynch of Cardinal Mooney won the state title in Duo Interpretation with their interpretation of a cutting from Inspector Gadget.

Alex Draime of Howland took first place in United States Extemporaneous Speaking.
