SPENDING CUTS | Youngstown city schools
The 2009-10 version of the Youngstown City School District’s fiscal recovery plan calls for the elimination of some 70 jobs and a $5.1 million cut in spending. A breakdown shows:
$1,548,088: Reduction of 20 teaching positions due to declining enrollment.
$785,250: Personnel savings from closing Hayes building — six classroom teachers, eight custodial helpers, two student custodial helpers, one educational assistant and one educational support assistant.
$673,331: Career and technical reductions — five teachers, two coordinators, one career specialist, two secretary time reductions.
$510,884: Administrator reductions — four central office administrators and one elementary assistant principal.
$442,000: Utility savings resulting from closing the Hayes and old West buildings and charges to the cafeteria fund for certain utility and other expenses.
$386,679: Irene Ward Building reductions — six clerical staff, one licensed helper, one night custodian and one eight-hour helper.
$274,755: Reduction of three maintenance workers.
$212,751: Reduction of eight sublaborers.
$150,000: Reduction of three security personnel.
$71,967: Reduction of two high-school clerical positions.
$69,500: Reduction of one transportation mechanic.
