AUSTINTOWN — Heidi Gill will serve 30 days in jail and two years of probation for assaulting a township woman last summer.

Gill, 40, of Niles, was given her sentence by Judge Dianne Vettori of the Mahoning County Area Court on Thursday.

According to the court docket, Gill is to report to the Mahoning County Justice Center no later than April 24 to begin her sentence. In addition to jail time, Gill is ordered to pay a $250 fine and court costs within 90 days. Gill must also pay any restitution to the victim for any incurred medical bills.

The sentence stems from a July 2 incident where Gill assaulted an 18-year-old woman at a Denny’s restaurant.

Witnesses said Gill slapped, punched and pulled the hair of the victim in an unprovoked attack. Gill was holding a clump of the victim’s hair when police arrived.

Gill pleaded no contest to an assault charge in December.

“From the bottom of my heart I am sorry that you were there and this happened,” Gill said to the victim at a hearing Monday.

A provision of the sentence allows Gill to serve her time on alternate weekends to allow for employment. Proof of employment must be presented to the court or the entire sentence will commence April 24 at 8 a.m.

Gill is also required to attend two Alcohol Anonymous meetings two times per week as part of her probation.

She is ordered to wear a continuous random alcohol monitoring bracelet and must install an ignition interlock on her vehicle at her own expense. Gill is also prohibited from contacting the victim.

Defense attorney Martin E. Yavorcik did not return a phone call seeking comment Friday.

He has said Gill was diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder and anxiety and suffered from seizures after being stunned by a Warren police officer with a stun gun outside of a Warren bar in September 2007. The episode received wide television broadcast.
