Food banks get ‘egg’stravagant donation
AKRON (AP) — Children may be hunting for eggs this week as Easter approaches, but some Ohio food banks won’t have that need.
Egg producers have donated more than 1.1 million eggs to a dozen regional food banks.
The Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank in Northeast Ohio has received more than 140,000 eggs worth about $15,000 from Hillandale Farms of Versailles, Pa., and Sauder Farms in Winesburg. Food bank operations director Chuck Allen says the eggs probably will be handed out within a week.
Hillandale also donated about 54,000 eggs for Columbus, 65,000 for Youngstown and 108,000 for Cleveland.
Salesman Kevin Patton says Hillandale wanted to help Ohioans in need, even though the three weeks before Easter is a peak season for egg sales.
