BALTIMORE — Koji Uehara allowed one run over five innings in his major league debut, Nick Markakis went 3-for-3 with a homer and three RBIs, and the Orioles beat Chien-Ming Wang and the Yankees. Uehara, the first Japanese-born pitcher in Orioles history, gave up five hits and a walk before leaving with a 7-1 lead.

Rays 7, Red Sox 2

BOSTON — Scott Kazmir pitched six innings and the bullpen preserved the lead. Carlos Pena hit a two-run homer after striking out in his first five at-bats this season, Evan Longoria went deep and Grant Balfour got out of a bases-loaded jam in the eighth inning by striking out Jed Lowrie.

Tigers 5, Blue Jays 1

TORONTO — Miguel Cabrera homered twice, Brandon Inge connected for the third consecutive game and the Tigers earned their first victory of the season. Zach Miner allowed one run and six hits in 52‚Ñ3 innings for Detroit, which lost its first seven games last year and finished last in the AL Central.

Twins 6, Mariners 5

MINNEAPOLIS — Justin Morneau homered and drove in three runs, Jason Kubel hit the go-ahead RBI double in the fifth inning and the Twins beat Seattle in an ominous first start for Mariners sinkerballer Carlos Silva.

Royals 2, White Sox 0

CHICAGO — Zack Greinke pitched three-hit ball into the seventh inning and the Kansas City bullpen was perfect. Greinke (1-0) struck out seven and walked three. Relievers Juan Cruz and Joakim Soria retired all nine batters to preserve the Royals’ first victory.

NATIONAL LEAGUE

Phillies 12, Braves 11

PHILADELPHIA — Four Phillies walked with the bases loaded during an eight-run seventh inning. Raul Ibanez hit a two-run homer, helping the defending World Series champions overcome a 10-3 deficit and avoid a three-game sweep on the day they received their shiny, new rings.

Marlins 6, Nationals 4

MIAMI — Dan Uggla hit a tiebreaking three-run double, Chris Volstad was almost flawless after a shaky first inning, and Florida completed the three-game sweep. John Baker added a pair of run-scoring singles for the Marlins, 3-0 for only the second time.

Mets 9, Reds 7

CINCINNATI — Carlos Delgado homered and drove in four runs Wednesday, getting New York’s offense rolling on a clear, cool night that was much more favorable to hitters, and the Mets’ rebuilt bullpen barely held on.

Cubs 11, Astros 6

HOUSTON — Aramis Ramirez and Mike Fontenot both homered and drove in four runs to lead the Cubs. Kosuke Fukudome had four hits and scored a career-high four runs for Chicago.

Rockies 9, Diamondbacks 2

PHOENIX — Dexter Fowler, Yorvit Torrealba and Ian Stewart homered and Colorado won a series against Arizona for the first time in two years.
