Columbiana officer resigns amid probe into misuse of department equipment
STAFF REPORT
COLUMBIANA — Detective John N. Jay has resigned from the police department after 28 years on the force while officials look into whether he inappropriately used the department’s computer.
Atty. Mike Esposito of Akron, who said Tuesday he was a labor and human resources attorney for the city, confirmed the matter was under review.
He declined to comment on whether there was more than one alleged offense. No details were released on what Jay was doing on the computer. Jay had been on administrative leave since last week before submitting his resignation.
Esposito was not sure if the city would have another, independent law enforcement agency investigate whether there was any wrongdoing.
Esposito referred other questions to city manager Keith A. Chamberlin or Police Chief Krawchyk, both of whom did not return calls Tuesday.
