Springfield tops Mineral Ridge, 9-3

NEW MIDDLETOWN — Ashley Davis tripled, doubled and singled to lead the Springfield High softball team to a 9-3 win over Mineral Ridge in an Inter Tri-County League Tier One game Monday.

Jessica Evan also had three hits for Springfield (3-3, 3-3). Breanne Mincher added a double and a triple, while Andrea Lyons and Rebecca Evans each had two hits. Davis (1-0) pitched two scoreless innings of relief.

Howland 8, Allegany-Limestone (N.Y.) 1

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — Abby Nicholas struck out seven in a complete-game win and Jen Debiec hit a home run to lead Howland in the Grand Strand Tournament.

Debiec also doubled and singled for the Tigers (3-0), while Carla Cope had a triple and single. Nicholas, Melanie Cope and Tori McCormick hit doubles. Gina Albani hit a pair of singles.

Western Reserve 21, Wellsville 5

WELLSVILLE — Junior Heather Monosky hit a two-run home run and had five hits total for five RBIs and sophomore Maggie Stubbs had four hits and five RBIs for Western Reserve (3-1, 3-0 ITCL).

Junior Ashley Grim (2-0) struck out seven and walked two during a four-hitter.

Baseball

NEW MIDDLETOWN — Brad Ferraro went 3-for-3 with a homer and three RBIs for Springfield (4-0, 4-0 ITCL) in a 10-5 win over Mineral Ridge.

Travis Richey and Frank Sferra each added two hits and Todd Kibby (2-0) struck out seven and walked three over four innings to get the win.
