WARREN — Harley E. Tibbs, the man who led a Warren police officer on a high-speed chase in December, will spend three years in prison.

Tibbs, 28, of South Street, Niles, pleaded guilty Monday in Trumbull County Common Pleas Court to charges in three separate cases.

Tibbs, who has a lengthy criminal record, pleaded guilty to assault for nearly injuring a Warren policeman during a chase that began in front of the Warren Police Department on South Street on Dec. 27.

The chase continued into Champion, Warren and Braceville townships before Tibbs crashed a sport-utility vehicle at Braceville Robinson and Eagle Creek roads in Braceville Township and fled on foot.

He was arrested the next day.

Tibbs also pleaded guilty to tampering with coin machines and petty theft in another case and failure to comply with the order or signal of a police officer in a third case.
