HMHP appoints executive at St. E’s

YOUNGSTOWN — Donald Koenig of Boardman has been appointed senior vice president of operations for St. Elizabeth Health Center on Belmont Avenue.

Koenig, who reports to Robert Shroder, president and chief executive officer of Humility of Mary Health Partners, is responsible for all day-to-day hospital operations at St. Elizabeth, except nursing, and will provide oversight of ancillary, informational technology, clinical services, supply chain and support services for all of HMHP.

He replaced James Davis, effective March 23. Davis has accepted a position in Atlanta, Ga.

A native of Bethel Park, Pa., Koenig was most recently employed as vice president for corporate responsibility and enterprise risk management for Catholic Healthcare Partners in Cincinnati.

During his employment with CHP, he created CHP’s corporate responsibility program, and as home office budget officer, streamlined and improved the transparency of CHP’s budgeting process. He also served for five years as an Audit and Compliance Board Committee member for Catholic Healthcare West, a $7 billion Catholic health system headquartered in San Francisco, as that system moved from a $300 million operating loss to a $400 million net revenue position, hospital officials said.

Koenig earned his bachelor of arts in international affairs from George Washington University, Washington, D.C., and his juris doctorate from George Washington University National Law Center.

Before joining CHP, Koenig served in the Judge Advocate General’s Corps of the Navy. Assignments included one as legal counsel for the Navy Hospital in Portsmouth, Va., where he helped stand up Fleet Hospital FIVE for Operation Desert Storm in Bahrain in 1991. He also served three years as administrative department head for Naval Legal Service, Naples, Italy, where he was legal counsel for Naval Hospital, Naples, Italy.

Koenig is a member of the Bar of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces; Health Care Compliance Association, Healthcare Financial Management Association, American Health Lawyers Association, and the Phi Alpha Delta Legal Fraternity (John Jay Chapter).

He and his wife, Sherrie, are the parents of a daughter, Emily, a postgraduate student in education at the University of Tampa.
