Junior Achievement: We need more funding
LIBERTY — Junior Achievement of Mahoning Valley said it needs additional funding or its programs in local schools this year will be cut. The organization blamed the economy for a reduction in its funding.
“Donations to JA have declined significantly over the past year, and we cannot purchase kits for the last 150 educators who have requested programs this spring without additional financial support,” said Michele Merkel, president of the local organization.
Its programs are taught by volunteers from the community and are designed to give students financial skills. For information, call (330) 539-5268 or send an e-mail to jamvmichele@onecom.com.
April is National Safe Digging Month
LIBERTY — April has been declared National Safe Digging Month, and the Liberty-based Ohio Utilities Protection Service is reminding Ohioans to call the agency before digging. Failure to call before digging results in underground utility lines being hit more than 200,000 times a year nationally. By calling (800) 362-2764, or 811, homeowners are connected to OUPS, which notifies the appropriate utility companies of the intent to dig.
