Christian fellowship for special-needs kids

NEW WATERFORD — East Fairfield United Methodist Church will host a night of fun, games, food, music and Christian fellowship from 6 to 9 p.m. April 17.

The parties at the church, 45675 state Route 517, just west of Route 7, are conducted the third Friday of each month. They’re designed to give families with special-needs children a chance to have a fun night out and meet other families with similar needs.

The evening will begin with a ham dinner at 6 p.m., followed by an Easter egg hunt, a short children’s message, crafts, games and Christian fellowship.

Sobriety checkpoint

A sobriety checkpoint will be conducted between 11 p.m. Saturday until 3 a.m. Sunday somewhere in Mahoning County.

The Mahoning County OVI Task Force will enforce a zero tolerance for OVI (Operating a Vehicle Impaired) offenders.

The mission of the task force is to keep roads safe by reducing alcohol- and drug-related crashes through public awareness and enforcement. The task force encourages responsible drinking and the use of sober, designated drivers.

Funding for the extra patrols is available through a grant from U.S. Department of Transportation/National Highway Transportation Safety Administration and Ohio Department of Public Safety/Governor’s Highway Safety Office through the Goshen Police District.

Wood chipping offered in Weathersfield Twp.

WEATHERSFIELD — Township residents who have wood cuttings they want the township to chip should call the township administrative office by 4:15 p.m. on Thursdays to have chipping done on Fridays.

The road department will be switching to one township truck for snow and ice control to chipping so that crews can start the process.

Residents who want the service should have all branches pulled out to the curb and neatly stacked. Branches should not be more than 3 inches in diameter.

This service is provided for yard cleanup or storm damage. If a tree is downed due to a storm, the township will chip. If a resident takes down a tree, however, and there are many limbs, the person who took the tree down should remove the limbs.

The township cannot chip shrubs that have dirt balls on their roots. The roots need to be removed since dirt will damage the chipping machine.
